Get rid of old fashioned dentures

(Part 1)

Do people still have to wear old fashioned dentures?
No. New technology allows to offer some fixed tooth replacement in 99% of the cases.
What is the problem with old fashioned dentures?
Most complaints regarding old fashioned dentures is about the size of the denture and that it feels insecure. A top set denture is held in place by natural suction. A mold is made of the palate and the denture is crafted from the negative impression. To create the suction it needs to cover the whole palate. The bottom denture is different, it sits on the bone ridge where teeth used to be. The design of the bottom set is always leaner, as it has no palate. This makes it more convenient to wear yet many patients report that the denture is tipping and moves around. This is common in case bone levels are low. As bone wears away the bottom denture fits less and less. It needs to be relined, which means adding extra acrylic to make up for the lost bone. Without the ridge to sit on the denture gets looser. Lear more about dentures>

Does the denture affect how you eat?
Processing food is different with a denture. It is a one piece thing so if there is pressure on one side of the denture the other side will lift like a totter. You need to chew on both sides all the time. Capability to incise and make side movements with a denture is also reduced. The denture covers your palate which affects tasting (not directly but the way hot and cold is sensed in the mouth).
What options do I have if I need all my teeth replaced?
Nowadays, thanks to implant technology there are several ways to replace a full set of teeth. Apart from ordinary dentures there are different types of implant retained, full fixed and fixed removable dentures & bridges available. Check implant solutions for full set teeth replacement>
